Painting is an art that has been with us since the beginning. We see the first  task of paintings in Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, where he lists it as a task that man was accustomed to at the time. This was majorly rock painting, which led to the inventions of rather what seems to be the most expensive and exotic paints in the world.

It is obvious that you have never even for a second thought that there ever existed any expensive paintings really. The truth is that there are and they either leave you in shock or make you wish you were the inventor.

1. Nafea Faa Ipoipo (When Will You Marry?) - $300 Million

This painting went for $ 300 million. It was done by Paul Gauguin and it is a drawing of two Tahitian girls seated on the ground. Its sale was a private transaction in Switzerland. The painting was done in 1892 and a Qatari buyer made the purchase. The painting is oil-based ink.

2. The Card Players - $250 Million

The painting was done by Paul Cézanne. The art was sold for between $250 million and $300 million in 2011. It was done in the 1890s. It is a painting of two men playing cards and seated side by side a table. The men are drawn with their faces focused on the cards.

The painting was sold in 2015. It was done in 1955 and is a collection of 15 series. The painting was done by Pablo Picasso went for $ 149.4 million at Christie’s auction in the New York. It is a printing of women with twisted bodies and dressed scantily. The printing can be hang on wall and is water resistant.

Jackson Pollock did this painting. It was done in 1948 and was sold for $140 million. This is a painting of tangled red, grey, brown, white and yellow colors painted on a fiberboard. The painting was last sold in 2006 and is painted from liquid oil paints. The painting was sold in the New York.

Willem de Kooning did this. It was sold for $137million. The painting was done between 1951 and 1953. The painting is that of a woman and it is an oil painting on canvas. It was last sold in 1994 through a secret transaction since it had been banned by the government due to its being nude.

6. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I -  $135 Million

Gustav Klimt did this painting. It was done in 1907 in Vienna but was last sold in 2006. It is a silver and gold oil based painting done on canvas. Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I is a painting of a salon lady- Adele Bloch-Bauer who was born in 1881 but died in 1925. The painting took three years to be completed.
