Trumpeached – Nancy Pelosi
Trump is really, really scared! Now that he has been impeached to become only the third US President after Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton in American history! Remember, how Trump had dared the Democrats to impeach him ever since he became the President in 2016 with Russians’ help. He was able to successfully thwart being impeached after Robert Mueller released the 2-year-long investigation report through his ally Attorney General Bill Barr.
House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to impeach Trump, in spite of her members’ strong push for months after the release of Mueller’s Report on the 18th of April 2019. Mueller had laid 10 counts of Obstruction of Justice by the President in his Russian interference during the 2016 Presidential Election. Emboldened for being let free by the Democrats, Trump became audacious to get his henchmen Rudy Giuliani and others to do his next bidding for the upcoming 2020 Presidential Election.
Robert Mueller testified in the Congress on the 24th of July 2019. On the very next day, the 25th of July 2019, Trump called Ukraine’s newly-elected President Volodymyr Zelensky and asked for a favour to investigate his political rival Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, Burisma and the Crowdstrike. 91 minutes later, Congress-approved military aid to Ukraine worth $391 million was blocked by the White House OMB officials.
Trump and his allies – Rudy Giuliani, Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Rick Mulvaney, Rick Perry, Ron Johnson, Gordon Sondland, John Bolton and others were not lucky this time. A White House whistleblower blew the whistle about Trump’s nefarious activities and filed a complaint on the 16th of September 2019 to the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community Micheal Atkinson. The rest has become the most significant factor in President Donald Trump being impeached!
On the 24th of September 2019, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the House to initiate a formal ‘Impeachment Inquiry’ against President Trump. The charge was stark and on the face that the President had betrayed his oath of office and the nation’s security to seek foreign assistance to investigate his political rival Joe Biden, who is more likely to be Trump’s opponent in the 2020 Presidential Election.
On the very day, Trump was interacting with the World Leaders at the UN Summit in New York, when he was shaken by the most powerful woman in America. Nancy Pelosi fulfilled Trump’s dare and wish to be impeached by announcing impeachment inquiry. The fear was evident, because Trump immediately attacked Pelosi on twitter.
While the inquiry, headed by the House Intelligent Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, progressed to reveal the Trump – Ukrainian plot in the open, Trump kept on attacking the Democrats. On the 5th of December 2019, Trump dared Pelosi again to impeach him – a tactics he had used just like a school bully time and again. In one of his tweet, he wrote – ‘If you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business’.
Exactly 13 days later, Donald Trump was impeached by the House with two ‘Articles of Impeachment’. The 18th of December 2019 will be etched, in bold black letters, as one of the darkest days in American Presidency, when the House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi impeached the 45th US President Donald J Trump for ‘Abuse of Power’ and ‘Obstruction to Congress’. It was an historic day in the American political arena. Trump also wrote history by becoming the first-ever American President to be IMPEACHED in his first term.
Trump became the third American President after Andrew Johnson (impeached on 24th February 1868) and Bill Clinton (impeached on 19th December 1998) to be impeached by the House of Representatives since the office of President was established in the year 1789. Trump also happens to be the fourth President to face ‘Impeachment’. President Richard Nixon resigned on the wake of his impeachment proceedings on the 9th of August 1974. The BIG BLOT of ‘Impeached President’ will remain for forever and ever.
On the 3rd of January 2019, Nancy Pelosi etched her name in golden letters to become the first woman in the American history to hold the powerful position of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. Nancy Pelosi will go down in history books as the first woman House Speaker to impeach the President of the United States of America Donald J Trump.
Nancy Pelosi was precise and somberly stated, after the House of Representatives impeached President Donald J Trump, “Today is a great day for the Constitution, but a sad day for America. I could not be prouder or more inspired by the moral courage of the House Democrats. We never asked one of them how they were going to vote. We never whipped this vote.
I view this day, this vote, as something that we did to honour the vision of our founders to establish a Republic, the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform to defend our democracy and the Republic, and the aspirations of our children that they will always live in a democracy, and we have tried to do everything we can to make sure that that is their reality.”
It was hysterical and fascinating to see the two parties – the Republicans and the Democrats – debating President Trump’s impeachment in a totally two different worlds for hours. The Democrats laid down their evidence and emphasized that Trump had abused the President’s office for putting pressure on the newly-elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the former Vice President and his political opponent Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
President Trump had blocked the $391 million military aid to be given to Ukraine and asked the favour from Zelensky. Also, the President had ordered all the White House officials to boycott the impeachment inquiry and had refused to hand over all the essential documents requested by the House Intelligence Committee and the House Judiciary Committee, in spite of House-issued subpoenas.
On the other hand, the Republicans were laying down all the nonsensical theories and blaming the Constitutional rights of the Congress to hold the President accountable for all his crimes and obstruction of justice. It was very evident that the Republicans could not provide any concrete evidence or explanation to refute the charges laid by the Congress. The Republicans proved that for them, their motherland and the Constitution hold no value whatsoever.
Nancy Pelosi displayed ample courage and the right demeanour throughout the impeachment proceedings. She proved her mettle as the most powerful woman in America to hold the President accountable and the Republicans just couldn’t stop her with their false claims by blaming the Democrats for impeaching him. On the House floor, Nancy Pelosi showed who is in command! Even though, she was firm and stern to conduct the debate, Pelosi maintained a very somber look.
Pelosi was also very authoritative with her own members, when the result of vote for the first article of impeachment was announced. Few Democrats clapped and Pelosi instantly gave a stern look at her members and swiped her hand to silence them immediately. She had earlier warned her members to maintain the dignity of their Constitutional duties at the historic moment.
She addressed the House of Representatives by invoking the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ and said, “We are all gathered her under the dome of this temple of democracy to exercise one of the most solemn powers this body can take – the impeachment of the President of the United States. Very sadly now, our founders' vision of a Republic is under threat from actions from the White House.
That is why today, as the Speaker of the House, I solemnly and sadly open the debate on the impeachment of the President of the United States. If we do not act now, we would be derelict in our duty. It is tragic that the President's reckless actions make impeachment necessary. He gave us no choice.”
After the final vote at the House of Representatives, Pelosi revealed that she would delay sending the two ‘Articles of Impeachment’ over to the US Senate. It was a powerful move, which the Republicans never had any inkling of. Senate Leader Mitch McConnell had shamelessly claimed on Fox News that he would coordinate with the White House lawyers to be on the same page to help the President at the Senate trial.
Nancy Pelosi’s intelligent move had clearly taken McConnell in total surprise. While Pelosi wants reassurance from Senate Republican Leader to conduct a fair trial, McConnell is hell bent to finish the trial at the earliest in favour of the President with his corrupt and evil scheme. She disclosed to media staff, “We have to see what the process is on the Senate side. So far, we haven't seen anything that looks fair to us, so hopefully it will be fair.”
She further added, “A fair process would not include the Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell working hand-in-glove with the White House to define the parameters of the trial, as has been reported in the press in recent weeks. This is a serious matter, even though the Majority Leader in the United States Senate says it's OK for the foreman of the jury to be in cahoots with the lawyers of the accused. That doesn't sound right to us.”
The New Year 2020 will open with a big bang for the world to witness the Impeachment trial of President Donald Trump in the Senate. History has been written in bold black letters – TRUMPEACHED!
