Childhood
Cindy Crawford was born on 20th February 1966 in Dekalb, Illinois. Her father was an electrician, and her mother was a bank-teller. Crawford was a valedictorian in her graduation from Dekalb High School. Se got a scholarship to pursue higher studies in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University. She did not complete her studies and took to modeling professionally.
Early Career
Cindy Crawford's first photographs in a local newspaper at the age of 16 put her on the cover. She participated in the contest, 'Elite Model Management's' look of the year ans came runners-up. The Elite Model Management promoted her in Chicago. Cindy started working for a famous Chicago based photographer, Victor Skrebneski.
Crawford shifted to Manhattan and signed an agreement with the Elite New York modeling agency in 1986. During the 1980s and 1990s, she became an established super model of the fashion industry, frequently appearing on the cover pages of magazines like W, Vogue, People, Elle, Allure, Cosmopolitan and Harper’s Bazaar. She also became the face of some of the reputed brands of the industry, including Revlon, Versace, Escada, Ink etc.

From super-model to television, Carwford's rise has been meteoric. Cindy became the host of House of Style, an MTV show in 1989. She also appeared in Freedom 90 video of George Michael and played a role in the video of Please Come Home for Christmas by Jon Bon Jovi. Her exercise video titled Cindy Crawford: Shape Your Body was launched in 1992, and became an instant hit among people, and it was followed by its sequels in 1993 and 2000. She tried her hand at acting. Crawford created a line of beauty products in collaboration with Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh, in addition to a furniture range and home goods. She quit modeling in 2000. She is featured in fashion magazines and does number of celebrity endorsements. In 2011, she appeared on the cover page of Vogue Mexico.
Personal Life
Cindy married Richard Gere in 1991 but got divorced in 1995. She then married Rande Gerber. The couple is blessed with two children. Crawford is involved in a number of philanthropic activities, and is an active volunteer for creating awareness about cancer.
