Linda Evangelista Story
Linda Evangelista is a Canadian supermodel, who used to dominate the modeling industry particularly in the 1990s. She has been one of the most successful models of all time, and has featured on more than 700 magazine covers till date. She has been the muse of Stever Meisel for several years, who has photographed her for multiple cover page appearances on Vogue Italia. In Fashion File, the TV show in 2008, she was voted as the greatest super-model of all time for her works and achievements.
Childhood
Linda was born to Italian parents Marisa and Tomaso in 1965, who had immigrated to Canada. The house where she grew up was near the Niagara Falls, and she had a Roman Catholic upbringing. Her mother was a bookkeeper, and father used to work for the General Motors. She attended a self-improvement school, where she learned etiquettes and things like poise and manners. At the age of 12, she attended a modeling course, and started working as a model in her hometown.
Early career
In 1981, Linda participated in Miss Teen Niagara beauty contest, where she did not win, but caught attention of an Elite Model Management representative. Later she moved to New York, and continued doing mediocre work in the industry. In 1988, she met Peter Linbergh, a photographer who advised her to cut her hair and don a shorter bob. Her new hairstyle shocked the fashion world and even cancelled many of her modeling projects, but later people began liking it, and work started coming to her.
Career highlights
In 1990, Linda made a statement that models like her ‘don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day’, which brought plenty of groans to her, but her modeling career did not diminish due to this. In 1997, she received a lifetime achievement award at VH1 Fashion & Music Awards, and MTV also ranked her number 2 on the list of top 1990s models. After a brief retirement in 1998, she returned to the modeling industry in 2001, and since then, she has made multiple appearances on the Italian Vogue.
Awards and achievements
In addition to receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award of VH1’s Fashion Awards, Linda has also received one star on the Walk of Fame, Toronto, Canada in 2003. In 2005, Women’s World Awards, Germany named her as the World Fashion Icon. In 2008, a viewer poll voted her as the greatest supermodel of all time in the CBC TV show of Fashion File.
Personal life
Linda married Gerald Marie in 1987, and divorced in 1993. After that, she dated Kyle MacLachlan, got engaged to him in 1995, but broke up in 1998. Then, she started dating Fabien Barthez, got pregnant but miscarried, and broke up in 2000. In 2006, she dated Peter Morton, whom she reportedly broke up in 2013.
Linda Evangelista is continuing with her modeling career in her 40s, and still leads the modeling industry. Unlike most other models, she never tried her hands in acting and other related fields, and continues to model.
