Childhood

Adriana was born to Maria da Graca Lima and Nelson Torres in Brazil, but her father abandoned them when she was very young, and her mother had to raise her alone. When she was 13, a friend at elementary school wanted to enter a modeling content, but did not want to go alone. So, Lima accompanied her in the Supermodel of Brazil contest by Ford, and won the first place.

Early Career

As Lima won the contest, she had to leave her studies and enter the modeling world. In 1999, she moved to the New York City and entered a contract with Elite Model Management. Soon, she started appearing in a number of international editions of Marie Claire and Vogue, and walked the ramps for numerous designers, including Valentino, Giorgio Armani and Vera Wang.

Career Highlights

In 1999, Lima did a fashion show for Victoria’s Secret for the first time, and entered into an agreement in 2000 as an Angel. In 2008, she wore the Fantasy Bra worth $5 million of Martin Katz, featuring 3575 black diamonds, 117 white round diamonds, 2 black diamond drops, and 34 rubies.

In 2010, she again wore Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Fantasy Bra worth $2 million. In 2012, she became the only celebrity to star in 2 Super Bowl commercials in a game, as she starred in Super Bowl XLVI commercials for Kia Motors and TeleFlora.

Personal Life

In 2001, Lima started dating Lenny Kravitz, and got engaged to him in 2002. The engagement was called off after some time. She was also once linked to Prince Wenzeslaus of Liechtenstein. In 2008, she dated Marco Jaric for 9 months, got engaged to him, and married him in 2009 in Wyoming. They have two daughters, Sienna and Valentina. The couple announced separation in 2014.

Achievements

Lima was rated among the top 100 most desirable women on Askmen.com for four consecutive years from 2002 to 2005, and again in 2012. The 2005 Forbes edition listed her as one of the best paid celebrities under 25 in the world.

In 2007, she ranked 7 on FHM’s 100 sexiest women, and also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2010, Lima was ranked 46 on 50 most popular women over the web.

Adriana Lima is a devoted Roman Catholic who attends Mass every Sunday. At present, she is involved with Caminhos da Luz, an orphanage in Salvador.
