Strategies For Changing Your Circumstances
It’s that point where you are so overwhelmed and feel like there is no way to climb out of the “mental hole” you have dug yourself. It can get so deep that you think you’ll never recover… I mean you work, work, work all day long and nothing seems to ever get any better, so the Hell with it! This can happen in our new relationships, our job, or even in our overall health. The hard part is that you may have to swallow your pride and realize that you might be the problem…. Wait, what? That’s right, you can’t really expect some random savior to emerge to pull your from your depths, it’s all on you!
So the next time you feel like you’re milliseconds from throwing up your hands and saying, “Screw it, I’m out” remember these 3 simple tips that can help you get back up on your feet! And no, it will never be easy, but start putting in the effort and your goals will eventually become a reality!
Baby Steps
You see that the deck appears to be clearly stacked against you and you see no way out. What are you to do? One of the best pieces of advice we have ever heard is to simply put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward! Okay, I’m about to get cheesy on you and quote a Christmas movie. From the Fred Astaire and Mickey Rooney TV movie Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town the character named Winter says
You never will get where you’re going, If ya never get up on your feet. Come on, there’s a good tail wind blowin’, A fast walking man is hard to beat.
Yup, that just happened – I quoted an awesome Christmas movie! This relevant quote literally should be the anthem for anyone when they feel like they are at rock-bottom. We should never stop trying and moving forward. Never stop believing. Never stop when crap is stacked against you. Get angry, get up, dust yourself off and take a step forward. Because even small steps forward are better than waiting on the sideline!
If you want to change your direction, If your time of life is at hand, Well, don’t be the rule, be the exception, A good way to start is to stand.
Action Is Key
Literally one of the most crippling mentalities we see is the “hope mentality”. You know exactly what I’m talking about – it’s the mentality where you sure hope things will get better but don’t actually make any changes to make it a reality. How can you expect things to turn out different if you don’t ever change anything and take some action? That’s silliness! Start taking action today to help you reach your goals. It doesn’t require you to make a massive change (more on that later), it can simply be a small step today that leads you in the right direction. It could also be sucking it up and taking the action you’ve been putting off for months. Need to call in a favor? Need to ask for a raise? Need to cut some “bad apples” from your life? Well maybe it’s time to just do it! It’s pretty simple – don’t hope your way to change, change your way to change!
Go Big
You may feel like you’ve taken action after action but things still aren’t turning in your favor! This could be the point where you pull out all the stops and shake things up! Maybe it’s time to change your direction. Maybe it’s time for a big change such as taking that “scary” job opportunity. Maybe it’s hiring a trainer to reach your health goals. Maybe it’s going back to school! All these options can be scary and relatively drastic, but if you are in such a funk that life isn’t enjoyable anymore doesn’t the risk seem worth it?
Sometimes we may just need a big change for a change of mental scenery that will give you a new perspective on your circumstances! These big changes can help you re-focus, re-motivate, and start living your life on your own terms again!
Wrap-Up
When it’s all said and done, it’s about being happy in your life with yourself and not comparing your circumstances to others – that just leads to a terrible mentality that drags you down (we’ve all been guilty of that). When things are completely stacked against you, don’t give up! Take action, do what you’ve been putting off, or just take a baby step! When you put one foot in front of the other things don’t seem as daunting or dark and we all know that a fast walking man is hard to beat!
