It was a glittering event with pomp and grandeur. As many as 118 competitors from all over the world competed for the coveted Miss World 2018 title. The Government of Sanya in China’s Hainanan province played the perfect host to conduct the mega event this year successfully.

Miss Mexican 2018 Vanessa Ponce de Leon created history to become the first-ever Mexican to win the Miss World Crown. The spectacular event was announced opened by the Vice-Governor of Hainan province Mao Chaofeng. Organisers and guests were seen launching paper planes, as soon as the ceremony was opened. It was symbolic gesture to launch the London-Sanya non-stop flight.

The pulsating 68th Miss World Final event was spread across two days. The grandeur stage was inspired by the Roman Colosseum. The oval shaped stage with tiered-seating allowed the 118 contestants to be on stage throughout the live show. It was scintillating to watch the proceedings as the event unfolded before the guests and viewers of the world.

17-year-young UK-based singer Donel Mangena performed the hit single ‘Bang Like a Drum’ with dancers clad in shimmering jersey crop tops, high wasted denim shorts and sparkly sneakers. As they entertained the crowd, the show commenced with a bang to leave the crowd wanting for more.

Megan Young, Barney Walsh, Angela Chow, Fernando Allende and Stephanie del Valle took the charge to present the program in their respective style and panache. Frankie Cena was seen getting reactions of the judges and audience.

DINASH delivered an awe-inspiring performance to enhance the mood of the evening. Contestants from Belarus, France, Scotland, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Mauritius, Uganda, Nepal, New Zealand and Thailand performed the dance with DINASH. The guests thanked him with a standing ovation.

Each individual in the crowd was anticipating and expecting for more as the event progressed. Miss World contestants, the guests of the evening and millions of viewers around the world were enthralled by the ‘Dances of the World’. It indeed was a treat to watch and a memorable experience.

Contestants showcased a piece of their culture on this international stage during ‘Dances of the World’. This year, the dance merged respective National Pride with Global Unity. The contestants were dressed in respective National costumes. The oval stage became extraordinarily colorful and spectacular to watch the contestants in colorful National costumes and waving their countries’ flags. ‘Dances of the World’ is choreographed each year to celebrate and pay homage to the ‘Beauty and Strength of Diversity’ of women.

The ‘Dances of the World’ segment was emotional to every citizen of the world as they watch their country’s music and dance techniques and style being showcased by each contestant. Each continent was given prominence at the centre stage by flawless choreography and hard work of the contestants. It was simply awesome to watch the spectacular colorful fusion! It was a beautiful amalgamation of cultural representation of the world.

Sister Sledge entered the stage to perform their 1979 hit song ‘We Are Family’. The power of their beautiful song made the audience dancing and singing to theur song. For that particular moment, it became the global anthem.

Miss World 2017 graced the stage, when the time was just right to announce the next Miss World 2018. The Top 12 contestants came on stage. The final three were announced much to joy and despair for the left out nine.

Miss Uganda Quiin Abenakyo, Miss Thailand Nicolene Limsnukan and Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce de Leon waited with bated breath at the centre of the stage. As usual in such pageants, every reaction is rehearsed well-in-advance.

Miss Uganda was announced as the 2nd runners-up. The moment becomes much more tensed for the audience, millions of viewers and the last two contestants. Each one is praying deep down in their hearts. The announcement of Miss Thailand as the 1st runners-up created history for Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce de Leon.

Emotions overflowed as Miss Thailand congratulated Miss Mexico and all three contestants huddle with tears of joys in their eyes for their successful journey has come to an end. A new beginning commences. The 26-year-young Miss World 2018 smiled with tears of joys shining bright from her eyes. She folded her hands to thank everyone.

The 68th Miss World of 2018 Vanessa Ponce de Leon of Mexico exclaimed, “I can't believe it! I really can't believe it! I think all the girls deserved it! I am proud to represent all of them. I will do as much as I can in the time I have got. Thank you so much everyone.”

Vanessa Ponce de Leon was crowned the new Miss World 2018 by the former Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar. After the crowning glory, Vanessa Ponce de Leon walked while waving to the guests and television audience. Her success story has just commenced.

Vanessa was born on the 7th of March 1992 in Guanajuato, Mexico City. She was raised in the City of Guanajuato and later grew up in Mexico City. She graduated in International Business. She is working as one of the Board of Directors of a Rehabilitation Centre for Girls. She also volunteers for 'Migrantes en el Camino'. Vanessa is a Speaker for the National Youth Institute. She also works as a model and a presenter. Vanessa is fluent in English and her mother tongue Spanish.

In the year 2014, Vanessa started her modeling career by entering on the Cycle 5 of Mexico’s Next Top Model. She won the contest and her modeling career took her to places. Four years later, Vanessa entered the Miss Mexico contest. 32 contestants participated for the National title. On the 5th of May 2018, Vanessa Ponce de Leon won the Miss World Mexico 2018 crown at Salon Imperial de Villa Toscona, Sonora.

Vanessa is an adventurous soul. She is a qualified open water scuba diver. She enjoys playing volleyball, painting and ultimate Frisbee. Ever since the Miss World pageant was established in 1951, not even a single Mexican won the coveted title. It has taken an amazing 67 years for a Mexican to become the Miss World. Needless to say, the title is given to respective country when the MNCs of ‘Beauty Products’ and other Fashion Houses are all set to exploit the poor country’s economy through this titles.
