Raul Castro Story
Raul Modesto Castro Ruz, born on 3 June 1931, is commonly known as Raul Castro. Raul Castro began in Cuban political service as a rebel commander, during the 1950s, but later took up prominent positions in power after his brother Fidel Castro came to power. He enjoyed the position of the President of the Council of the State of Cuba, along with being the President of the Council of Ministers of Cuba. He has also been the commander in chief of the Armed Forces along with being the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
Early Life
Raul Castro, born as Raul Modesto Castro Ruz on 3 June 1931 in Biran, Cuba, is the son of a Galician immigrant father, Angel Castro and Lina Ruz, a female of Canarian parentage. Raul was the youngest of the three male children, Ramon, Fidel and himself. Raul also had four sisters in Angela, Juanita, Emma and Agustina.
The brothers Fidel and Raul were expelled from the first school they attended so they later joined the Jesuit School of Colegio Dolores in Santiago and the Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in Havana. Raul was not a bright student and he got involved in socialist activities by joining the Socialist Youth.
Career
Raul was not interested in studies; however, he expressed a keen interest in socialist activities and joined the Socialist Youth in his young days. He also met Soviet KGB agent Nikolai Leonov apart from being in exile in Mexico City. He also worked with his father in his fields after passing from college.
With his brother, Fidel, he began participating in protest activities and revolutions. Raul and Fidel made two attempts at usurping power from the repressive Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista. The first attempt was unsuccessful, but the second yielded results. After the second successful attempt, Raul’s brother Fidel came to power and he became a prominent political figure in Cuba.
Heights
Raul experienced a high in his life when he was made a part of the Socialist Youth team, as he was interested in socialist activities. When he succeeded in usurping power in Cuba from the repressive Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista, it was another high in his career.
After this successful attempt, his brother Fidel came to power. He made Raul in charge of the armed forces. When in 2006, Fidel went for surgery for his intestinal bleeding; he made his brother, Raul his successor. This was another high.

Raul Castro was born as Raul Modesto Castro Ruz in the June of 1931. His parents were Angel Castro and Lina Ruz. He had numerous siblings in Ramon,
Fidel, who were his brothers and Angela, Juanita, Emma and Agustina, his sisters. He married Vilma Espin in 1959 and his marriage lasted until 2007. He had four children from his marriage.
Awards/Achievements
Raul’s successful second attempt at usurping power from the repressive dictator of Cuba, Batista, could be one of his achievements. Apart from this, he has also been the Commander of the Cuban Revolution. He has also preformed presidential duties in July 2006, when his brother, Fidel went in for surgery.
