All these while we thought that we can get more done if we learn to multitask. We thought that multitasking is the way to get more things done. The truth is completely the opposite. You can get more things done when you focus, and if you multitask, your productivity will drop.

It has been proven through studies and researches. As humans, we can produce outstanding work when we focus and when we are in the flow. When you are in the flow, ideas seem to flow to you automatically. Time slows down and you seem to put in 100% of your focus into your work.

This is how you can produce quality work. However, if you multitask and do a few things at the same time, you distract your mind. Your focus will switch from one task to the other. Jumping forth and back. It interrupts you when you want to focus and get into the flow.

Therefore, focus on what you do instead of trying to multitask and do a few things together. This is especially true for work that requires your thinking and your creativity.

So don’t multitask. The focus on what you do and do that one thing. Michael Jordan is good at basketball and not tennis because he focused on one thing, basketball. You have to apply the same principle and make it a habit.

3. They Do The Most Important Thing First

If you read Brian Tracy’s book, Eat That Frog, you will understand that productive people can create more results because they do what is important first. Each morning before you start your day, work on the most important task that will give you the most result first.

In his book, Eat That Frog, Brian Tracy used the metaphor of a big and ugly frog as the most important task. And you have to eat that frog first. After you have eaten that frog, the other frogs are easier to eat as they are smaller and less ugly.

The same goes in your real life and your working profession. Get the most important thing done first even if they are difficult or challenging to do. And once you get it done, you will feel lighter; you will feel the sense of accomplishment and able to do much more.

Thus, turn this into your habit and do the 20% work that will give you 80% of the result first.

4. They Take Care Of Their Health

How can you be productive when you don’t have the energy and are always tired? Successful people know this, and that is why they take care of their health. They exercise regularly, and they eat healthy food.

Do you know that when you exercise, your body will release endorphins that will make you feel positive? You release your tensed muscle, and your tissues get more oxygen when you exercise. This is why they said that exercise makes you happy and able to release your stress.

Exercise is important, and you have to do it every day. The same goes for eating healthy food. Don’t skip breakfast and eat more fruits and vegetables. Take supplements when possible. Whatever you put into your body will directly affect your energy level.

So if you want to be productive, you need to make sure you are always in good shape. Spend time to exercise and eat good food.

5. Schedule Time For Rest

Success is a marathon and not a sprint. You cannot live your life 24 hours rushing to get things done. This is the right way to be productive; it is the sure way to burnout. Rome was not built in a day. It takes time for things to happen and for the results to show.

Hence, you need to schedule time for rest. Will you use up all your stamina in the first kilometer if you are running a 42-kilometer marathon? Most likely you won’t. You will be very motivated and driven in the beginning when you first started. But you have to understand that it is a long journey.

So schedule a time to rest and relax. Sleep when you need to. Slow down and take a walk in the wood if you want to. Take time to travel overseas and spend time with family. The reason you rest is so that you have more energy and stamina to accomplish more.
