Sheryl Kara Sandberg is the first woman to be on Facebook’s Board of Directors. The COO of Facebook, Sheryl is an American activist, technology executive and author. Sheryl has been Vice-President Global Online Sales and Operations, Google.

She played an active part in the initiation of google.org, an altruistic arm of Google. Sheryl has also occupied the position of the Chief of Staff for United States of the Treasury Lawrence Summers.
Her name has featured in the Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People’s list. It is rumoured that Sheryl is worth over US$ 1 billion.
Childhood
Born in 1969 to Adele and Joel Sandberg, a Jewish family in Washington, D.C., Sheryl has two younger siblings. Her mother was a French teacher and her father an ophthalmologist.
The family shifted to North Miami beach, Florida, where Sheryl went to North Miami Beach High School. She did well in school. Sheryl was on the Senior Class Executive Board and also a part of the national Honour Society.
Sheryl did her graduation in summa cum laude with a B. A. in Economics from the Harvard University. She won the John H. Williams Prize for scoring the highest in Economics.
Committed to welfare activities, Sheryl was pivotal in forming the orgainsation, Women in Economics and Government. She was a student at Harvard then. Sheryl has done her M.B.A from the Harvard Business School, and passed out with flying colours.
Early Career
Sheryl started her career as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. She then worked for Larry Summers, Secretary of the Treasury during President Bill Clinton’s tenure for a period of five years from 1996-2001.
Sheryl was appointed Vice President, Global Online Sales and Operations, Google Inc, in November 2001. She retained the position for an impressive period of nearly 7 years.
Heights
Sheryl was appointed COO, Facebook in March 2008. Her first initiative on joining Facebook was to make the social network site profitable. Within a short span of two years, she had managed to achieve this feat.
This enterprising lady administers the business operations, comprising business development, human resources, sales & marketing, public policy, and communications. Sheryl was the first woman and the eighth on member on the Board of Directors of Facebook. In the year 2014, Facebook went public.
Sheryl is also on the Board of Walt Disney. She is an active member of boards of Women for Women International, the Centre for Global Development and V-Day.
Sheryl has been a keynote speaker on several important occasions, such as, Community Federation's Business Leadership Council and the Class Day ceremony at the Harvard Business School, to mention a few.
Personal Life
Sheryl’s first marriage ended in a divorce within just a year. She got married for a second time to Dave Goldberg, who was an executive with Yahoo then. He later became the CEO, Survey Monkey.
The couple is blessed with a son and a daughter. Goldberg passed away this year. Sheryl presently resides in Menlo Park, California.
Recognitions
Sheryl Sandberg was listed among the 50 "Most Powerful Women in Business" by Fortune Magazine. She occupied the 10th position on the list in the year 2014, and ninth in the 100 Most Powerful Women’s list.
Sheryl was featured in the Business Week as one of the "25 Most Influential People on the Web" in the year 2009. Her name is mentioned in the Time 100.
