Childhood

Naomi’s mother, Myfanwy Edwards, was an actress, and father, Peter Watts, was a road manager. They divorced when Naomi was 4 years old, and her father died when she was 7 due to heroin overdose. She and her mother kept moving from one place to the other for several years in England, and then finally settled in Australia when she was 14 years of age. Naomi then started taking acting lessons and going for auditions.

Early career

In 1986, Naomi got a small role in For Love Alone, an Australian romance movie. But her acting career actually began when she made an appearance in Flirting, a boarding school romance, and a couple of TV series. After working in a few Australian movies, she moved to the LA, and got her first movie role in Tank Girl in 1995. Over the next 10 years, she worked in varied TV and movie projects, and her double role in 2001 Mulholland Drive brought her critical acclaim. She was further noticed for her main protagonist role in The Ring in 2002.
