Childhood
Jane was born on 21st December 1937 in New York City. Her mother committed suicide when Jane was just 12 years old. Fonda started to teach dance at the age of 15. She completed her schooling from Emma Willard School and went to Vassar College, Poughkeepsie to complete her higher studies. However, she eventually dropped out of college and went on to study art in Paris.
Early Career
Jane Fonda started her career as a fashion model and her pictures made it to the cover page of Vogue magazine. She developed an interest in acting on seeing a play, The Country Girl. Fonda acted in plays.
Heights
Jane Fonda bagged a role in the movie, Tall Story in 1960. She acted in movies; Period of Adjustment, Walk on the WildSide, Sunday in New York, Cat Ballou, Any Wednesday, Barefoot in the Park, They Shoot Horses Don’t They and Klute, The China Syndrome.
Her performance in the movie Walk on the Wild Side won her the first Golden Globe Award for the Most Promising Newcomer. In 1971, she won her first Academy Award for the Best Actress for the movie Klute. For the movie, Dollmaker, she won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Jane Fonda started a production house and directed some movies. She became a fitness freak after fracturing her leg during the filming of ‘The China Syndrome’ and later released fitness videos, audios and books.
Jane Fonda is actively involved in politics. She played an important part in opposing the Vietnam War and supporting the Civil Rights Movement. She is an active participant of various feminist movements and has worked for the betterment of women, not only in America but in far off lands like Israel and Palestine. In 2004, Jane started a charitable foundation named, Jane Fonda Foundation.
Personal Life
Jane Fonda married three times but her marriages proved to be failures. She was first married to French Film Director, Roger Vadim in 1965 and has a daughter from him. Later, she married Tom Haydon. After divorcing him she married Ted Turner, the famous TV tycoon but this marriage too culminated in a divorce. In 2010, she was diagnosed with breast cancer but has recovered since.
