Childhood and Education
Iris was born on 25th January 1993 in Lille North of France to Yves Mittenaere, who is a professor and Laurence Druart, a school teacher. Her parents divorced when she was three years old; she has a brother, sister, and one-half sister. She lived with her mother after the separation and attended school in northern France.
She continued her studies after high school and went on to graduate with a degree in Science at Lycee. Her pursuits of knowledge did not stop there as after graduating, she returned to Lille and further started pursuing a degree in Dental surgeon at Lille 2 University of Health and Law.
Her pageantry career took a turn for the best in 2015 when she was crowned Miss Flandre 2015, Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais 2015, and Miss France 2016. The wins gave her the confidence to go for Miss Universe from which she uses the platform to advocate for good dental hygiene. Iris is the second Miss Universe to attain the title in France, the first European winner to take the crown and the third French Lady to be among the top five final candidates competing for that title.
Winning the crown was tough as she was competing with other equally top three strong contestants. She acknowledges her success due to her ability to keep pushing for what she wants even after failing several times. Among the most critical views that she holds dear is immigration. She was indeed able to share her views with the world during the contest where she showed appreciation for the open borders in France which have fastened the rate of globalization as it allows more people to travel the world.
Even though she was surprised by the win, she plans on using the platform to help meet and understand different people. As she fills the shoes of the former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach of Philippines, we cannot wait to see what the dental surgery student will do next.
Iris loves cooking, as seen on her Instagram page where she frequently posts both videos and photos of her culinary journey. She was also able to bring forth her passion for food in a cooking session with Chef Frederic Anton. The 24-year-old brunette also loves extreme sports and traveling to diverse countries. She enjoys volunteering at various places including Les Bonnes Fees and describes herself as funny, loving, and caring.
