Gustaf Douglas Story - Swedish Businessman
Gustaf Archibald Siegwart Douglas is well known Swedish-born Businessman as well as a politician of the Moderate Party, who also happens to be a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (Kungl), one of the world’s oldest engineering of science academy present till date, from the year 2007. The Kungl was founded by King Gustaf V to aid business transactions, connections, improvements and government affiliations of Sweden on an international scale.
Gustaf was born in a noble family of Scottish origin, a family that in Riddarhuset, during the 17th century was granted the committal status and was amongst the other 18 families only to have been granted so. Gustaf Douglas was all the more determined to prove himself and make a difference in the world, thereby set high standards for his success. Later after some time, Gustaf Douglas also served on the Riddarhuset board. Given his background his greatest competitors were his peers.
Early Life
Gustaf Douglas was born on 3 March, 1938 and the first-born son of count Carl Ludvig Douglas and his spouse, Ottora Maria Haas-Heye. His mother was of Prussian origins, while his father was nobleman, who served as Royal Diplomat and Ambassador to Brazil.
Career
Gustaf Douglas graduated from Harvard School Of Business with an MBA in 1964 and began working in Sweden, soon after. In the year 1983 he was appointed as the head of the Dagens Nyheter and Expressen newspapers and continued as the CEO till 1980. With ambitions such as his, Douglas soon founded his own company in 1984 called Investment AB Latour, using which he has now gained control of Securitas AB, a well-known security firm and other renowned security oriented companies such as Assa Abloy, leading producer of locks worldwide.
He also gained control of Fagerhult AB, the Swedish giant in manufacture of light fixtures.Gustaf Douglas and Melker Schörling, a businessman who holds a majority of shares in Securitas, have formed an alliance, making Melker Schörling as the chairman of the company.
Gustaf Douglas is one the eleventh richest man in the whole of Sweden whose net worth has been declared as 3.2 billion US dollars as quoted by Forbes. And as per the new surveys in 2015 Gustaf Douglas’s net worth is said to be at 4.5 billion US dollars.
He is a member of the Moderate Party of Sweden, which he has supported since his teenage years and has been a member of the Party’s board since 2001. He is known as a ‘Conservative Moderate’ for his wide support and stand with regard to the education policy.
Personal Life
Gustaf Douglas married Elisabeth, née von Essen, a descendant of yet another noble family in 1963. They have two children from their marriage, both sons. Eric Douglas and Carl Douglas hold key positions within the companies held by their family. Gustaf Douglas, now 77 years old lives with his family in a mansion situated outside Åkersberga.
