5 things successful people do to get to the top
What stops me from being a success? What stops me from being the best in my craft? What is it that the winners do and others don’t? If these questions strike you often, this post is especially for you. The world may see them as victorious Barack Obama, wealthy Steve Jobs or triumphant Mark Zuckerberg, but there are simple things that set them apart from the crowd.
What are they? Let's dive right in.
1) They never get distracted at work
We live in times where information is present in overabundance and the direct consequence is mass distractions. If the only thing in your mind while working is ‘how do I produce extraordinary results’ then you most probably belong to the class of winners. It’s simple: least distraction and maximum victories.
If you have 10 distinct tabs open on your browser, you aren’t doing justice to any one of them. How to we produce extraordinary results when we have a tendency to chat with fellow colleagues or get a coffee every once in a while. If this seems to be your daily regime, take some time to embrace productivity and look for best practices for whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish.
Distraction will allow you to waste your time and dilute your potential. Do one thing; make a resolute decision; decide as to what is more crucial for you: your dreams and passion or the distractions around you. To avoid such distractions, using a time management app or a time tracker can be really beneficial.
2) They have a crystal clear vision, purpose, and direction in life
Where do see yourself in the years to come, or to be more precise, do you see yourself living the successes in the next 5 years or 10 years or even the next 30 days? What is it that you aspire to have? What do you want life to be like?
It’s tough to stay on course if we never set one, to begin with. Having a sense of direction and purpose, you tend to find the distractions a lot less appealing. We’re just blowing in the wind and falling victim to all the time wasters around us if we don’t generate a sense of purpose and direction in our lives.
3) They think they’ve got every advantage to win in life
One of the easiest things to do in life is to talk about how hard our lives are or how many hardships one has to face every day. Even if life is tough for everyone, we find our unfair share a little higher.
This is exactly where a victim’s mentality differs from a winner’s mentality.
It’s important to remember that the world owes you nothing and neither is it meant to be fair. However, the world has also given you everything you need. Once you start believing that you have every advantage in the world to succeed, you’ll feel the release of an enormous weight of responsibility from yourself and the world.
What you’ve got to keep in mind is that the world is your oyster where you’ve been put in a place to succeed. You can now shine and change the world and everything in the universe. All you have to do is show up.
4) They value production over playtime
Arnold J. Toynbee once said, “The supreme accomplishment is to blur the line between work and play.”
It is important to be reminded of the fact that we’re here on earth to work. While many people may just not feel the push to work hard, once you internalize this fact and find the work you enjoy, work time becomes equivalent to playtime. As a matter of fact when you work while having fun, you’re totally energized and would not feel the strain to work. If you are aiming to be successful, there are no weekends or weekdays, workdays or vacation days, Sundays or Mondays. They are, in fact, one and all the same thing. You know you’re living life the way it is intended to be lived when you look forward to work. You actually prefer work.
5) The adopt the “Less planning more execution” mantra
It’s easy to plan the plans but getting started is tough a ride there. You might have a “multi-millionaire” idea, an idea for an amazing product, but if you do nothing to make it a reality, your life simply will not change. It is as simple as that. You need to be prepared to put yourself out there if you aspire to live the millionaire lifestyle. There is just no point daydreaming about the possibilities; what you need is to get kick-started. No room for any excuses.
The quality and quantity of work are what it comes down to at the end of the day if you want to be successful. But this isn’t a source of worry which should leave your own mind held back. Always keep in mind that those who make it to the top don’t do different things, they just do things differently. Try these easy to go habits not just to be different but feel different.
