William James, also referred to as the father of American psychology,was born on 11 January, 1842in a wealthy family. He first wanted to become a painter, but did not succeedin the field, so he decided to attend a medical school instead. Later, due to several health problems, James went to France and Germany,where he studied and developed an interest in psychology.
