Martin Freeman is an actor of English origin. He is famous for his portrayal of the character, Tim Canterbury in The Office, a situational paradoxical comedy. He played the role of Dr Johnson in Sherlock, the British crime drama.

Childhood
Freeman was born on September 8, 1971 in Aldershot, Hampshire to Philomina and naval officer, Geoffrey Freeman. His parents separated when Freeman was just a child. Freeman went to the Salesian School, Chertsey. He studied 'media' from Brooklands College. Freeman attended the Central School of Speech and Drama. He has an older brother and they were brought up as Roman Catholics. Freeman suffered from asthma as a child.
Early Career
Freeman was associated with a young theatre group from the age of 15. He featured in approximately 18 television shows, several radio shows and 14 theatricals. His depiction of the character 'Tim Canterbury' in the original UK version of the situational paradoxical comedy, The Office, in 2004 skyrocketted him into the lime-light. Freeman starred in Hardware, a situational comedy and in the films, Ali G Indahouse and Love Actually in 2002 and 2003.
Heights
Freeman's portrayal of the character, Lord Shaftesbury in Charles II: The Power and The Passion, a historical drama on BBC was the turning point in his career. From dappling in comedies, Freeman switched to doing more serious roles. He did cameo roles in one episode of This Life's second series and in Black Books. Freeman featured in the television series, The Robinsons, on BBC. He did the theatre production, The Last Laugh in 2007. Freeman starred in Faith No More's video, “I Started a Joke”. He featured in the four-part drama, Boy Meets Girl.
Freeman depicts the character of Dr. John Watson in Sherlock. His acting in the first episode of Sherlock was critically acclaimed. Freeman bagged the BAFTA Award in the category of 'Best Supporting Actor' 2011. He was shortlisted for the Primetime Emmy Award for 'Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie'.
Freeman was the main lead in the film series, The Hobbit.He earned the award for 'Best Hero' at the MTV Movie Awards 2013 and at the 18th Empire Awards for his performance in the first part of the Hobbit series.
Freemn featured in the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy. He was the protgonist in the 2013 finale of The World's End trilogy in 2013. Freeman was gifted a 'fellowship' by University College Dublin's Literary & Historical Society members. His name was encrusted on the fellowship.
Freeman acted in the Fargo series. He was cast in the title role of Shakespeare’s play Richard III in 2014 at Trafalgar Studios. Freeman starred in the television film The Eichmann Show in 2015.
Personal Life
Martin Freeman is in a relationship with actress, Amanda Abbington. The couple has two children, Joe and Grace and the family lives in Hertfordshire. Freeman is a vegan. He participated in a charity cricket match, the proceeds of which would be donated to the Christchurch earthquake victims. Freeman featured in a broadcast for party elections on behalf of the Labour Party for the UK generaal election in 2015.
