Alex Pettyfer was born on April 10, 1990 in Stevenage, Hertfordshire to Richard Pettyfer and Lee Ireland. His father was an actor and his mother an interior decorator. Pettyfer was raised in Slough, Berkshire. His parents divorced and his mother re-married. He has a younger half-brother, James Ireland from his mother's remarriage.
Pettyfer studied at The Mall School, Twickenham and the Lambrook Haileybury School, Berkshire. He attended Millfield School in Street, a boarding school in Somerset. Pettyfer did his GCSE from Shiplake College, Oxfordshire. He enrolled in Sylvia Young Theatre School, London.
Pettyfer’s love for the theatre and acting can be traced back to his school days. He performed in several school plays. He acted as ‘Willy Wonka’, produced by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Pettyfer’s association with the camera and the glamour world started at a very young age. He featured in advertisements of yoghurt brands and modelled for Gap.
Pettyfer embarked upon his career in the world of films and fashion in his teenage. Pettyfer debuted as an actor in Tom Brown’s ‘Schooldays’, a television film. He was cast in the lead role and was critically acclaimed for his acting skills.
Pettyfer made his foray in the film world with his role as “Alex Rider” in the film, ‘Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker’ (2006). He tasted his first success when he was selected for two awards for his role; ‘Young Artist Award’ and ‘Empire Award’.
