She is believed to have the ability to strike an amazing balance between the fashion world, the film world, the art world and the music world. Eva is pivotal in the thriving success of her husband, Michael Chow’s restaurant business.
Childhood
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Eva was chosen as the protégé of two masters of Korean traditional water colour, Byun Kwan Sik and Kim Eun. Unfortunately, following the death of her banker father, she along with her family moved to the United States, and her training as an artist came to an abrupt end.
While in college, she worked for film production companies, but her passion and true love continued to be Fine Arts. She finally sought admission in the Otis Parsons School of Design in Los Angeles. She has also attended a university in NYC.
Early Career
Eva was not fluent with English when she moved to California. That did not deter her. She took language classes at Los Angeles City College.
While at Otis, Eva designed a line of simple evening dresses and tailored suits. She then displayed her creation before a buyer for Neiman Marcus. Well, that was just the beginning! The buyer was suitably impressed and placed a sizeable order. Her fashion company and brand had just been created and right from her home.
Focused and diligent, Eva had started her own manufacturing unit and even opened a showroom. Her collection was much sought after and she was doing business with international brands, such as, Bergdorf, Barney, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, to name a few. She had soon established her flagship showroom in 550 Seventh Avenue in New York. She joined the CFDA in 1991.
While creating a niche for herself in the fashion world, Eva auditioned for a Dino De Laurentiis film. Though she did not get the part, Eva worked with Laurentiis as his assistant. She has worked as the Production Manager on “Tarzan the Ape Man” for Bo Derek.
Heights
Eva’s creativity and flair for art had placed her among the top designers. Her career had taken off, with her designs finding place in issues of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Vanity Fair. Eva’s creations were photographed by eminent photographers.
Eva is known as the city’s top hostess. Her parties are the most talked about events in the social circles for their glamour element. As the board member of the Los Angeles County Museum, Eva has founded and co-chairs an annual gala, “Art + Film” gala. She strives to raise funds for film-related programming.
Personal Life
Eva married Michael Chow in 1992. He is a collector, designer and restaurateur. The couple are blessed with a daughter, Asia Chow. Eva loves Mr Tisci’s fashion designs for Givenchy. A lady of taste and class, her musical preference ranges from Beethoven and Brahms to Pink Floyd and Amy Winehouse.
