Childhood
Snoop Dogg was born on October 20, 1971 in Long Beach, California, USA to Beverly Broadus and Vernall Varnado. The second of three sons, he was named after his stepfather, Calvin Cordozar Broadus, His father was a Vietnam veteran, singer and mail carrier. As a boy, his parents nicknamed him "Snoopy" because of his appearance.
At a very young age, Broadus began singing and playing piano at the Golgotha Trinity Baptist Church and in sixth grade, he began rapping.
Early Career
Snoop's introduction to the music business came through his association with famed rapper Dr. Dre. His first album, Doggystyle (1993) reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard's hip-hop and Top 200 charts, with hit singles, "What's My Name" and "Gin & Juice". Dogg gave hits like, Tha Doggfather (1996), Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told (1998) and No Limit Top Dogg (1999). He initially called himself "Snoop Doggy Dogg", but later shortened it to Snoop Dogg.
Heights
Snoop scored his last big hit with the single "Drop It Like its Hot", in 2004, which topped the hip-hop and pop charts. His 2006 release, “Tha Blue Carpet Treatment”, and the single "That's That Shit", were critically acclaimed. Snoop was the first artist to release a track as a ringtone prior to the release of the single, "It's The D.O.G." in 2007.
Snoop has co-authored a number of books; Love Don't Live Here No More: Book One of Doggy Tales-with David E. Talbert, The Doggfather- with Davin Seay and Snoop Dogg Reincarnated- with Willy T.

Snoop has appeared in several films, including 2004's “Starsky & Hutch”. He has also made several guest appearances on television shows, “The L Word” and “Weeds”, and starred in his own E! reality TV show, “Snoop Dogg's Father Hood” in 2007.
Personal Life
Snoop is married to Shante Taylor and has three children; two sons, Corde and Cordell, and a daughter Cori. The family lives in Claremont, Diamond Bar, California, USA.
