Andrew Cuomo is a politician from America, hailing from the Democratic Party. He is presently the 56th Governor of New York, elected to the position in the year 2010. He is the son of Mario Cuomo, who also served as the Governor of the same state from 1983 to 1994.

After started off campaigning for his father, Cuomo entered the political scene himself, and was re-elected as the State’s Governor in 2014.
Childhood
Andrew was born to Matilda Raffa Cuomo and Mario Cuomo, who were Italian immigrants. His father also served as the Governor of the New York state, and Cuomo contributed much by assisting his father during his election campaigns. He received his graduation degree in 1979 from the Fordham University, and then attended Albany Law School to receive a Juris Doctorate degree in the year 1982.
Early Career
After completing his studies, Cuomo started helping his father with his political career. Earlier, he had also helped his father in his election campaigns. He started managing the Transition Committee of his father in 1983, and soon became an important adviser. In 1984, he became the Assistant District Attorney, and founded the Housing Enterprise for Less Privileged (HELP).
Cuomo worked as the assistant secretary of the US Department of Housing & Urban Development from 1993 to 1997 under the presidency of Bill Clinton. In 1997, he became the secretary of HUD, and served there until 2001.
Career highlights
In 2002, Andrew ran for the New York Governorship for the first time, but made a controversial comment about George Pataki, and had to withdraw from the race. In 2007, he became the state’s attorney general, and worked alongside Eliot Spitzer, the then Governor. He ran for the position once again in 2010, and won after beating Carl Paldino. He was re-elected in 2014 after winning over Rob Astorino.
Reputation
As a Governor, Cuomo focused extensively on women’s rights, economic stimulus of the state and LGBT rights. He has also legalized the same-sex marriage, and also toughened the gun controls in the state. Responding to a call from the New York Department of Environmental Conservation, he has also put a ban on fracking or hydraulic fracturing. With that, New York officially became the 2nd state that banned this practice.
Personal Life
Andrew was previously married to Kerry Kennedy, with whom he has three daughters. They separated in 2005, and since then, he has been dating Sandra Lee, the famous TV chef, and is living with her in Chappaqua.
Son of a former Governor, and brother of Chris Cuomo, a CNN journalist, Andrew seems to have a bright future in the American politics. Michael Shnayerson, in his biography ‘The Contender’, has raised speculations on whether or not Cuomo is a competent presidential candidate.
