John Kasich Story

Childhood and Early Life

Born in 1952, Kasich’s parents, John and Anne Kasich, worked for the post office, and were children of immigrants. His father was Czech, while his mother was a Croatian. During his early years, he participated actively in his local church and high school communities.

Education

He attended public school in McKees Rocks. Later, the family moved to Ohio, and Kasich attended the Ohio State University.

During his freshman year, he wrote a letter to the then President Richard Nixon, and requested a meeting with him. In response, he was granted a 20-minutes meeting with him in 1970. In 1974, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the Ohio State University, and then continued research work on the Ohio Legislative Service Commission. In 1975, he joined Senator Buz Lukens as his administrative assistance.

Career Highlights

In 1978, he was elected in the Ohio State Senate, and served there until 1982. After that, he was elected in the US House of Representatives, where he served 9 terms till 2001. In 2012, he endorsed Mitt Romney in the presidential elections. In 2010, he ran for the governor of Ohio, and defeated Ted Strickland to take office in 2011.

Reputation

John Kasich is nationally recognized to take innovative and independent approach for getting results. In 2010, he became the Governor of Ohio, and accepted the challenged to bring the state back to its economical and budget track. He is the former trustee of Concord Counseling Service, Presidential Fellow of Ohio State University, and also the former honorary chairman for Recharge Ohio.

Family and Personal Life

Kasich married Mary Lee Griffith in 1975, but divorced in 1980 without any children. Then, he married Karen Waldbillig in 1997, with whom he has twin daughters, Reese and Emma. He likes watching Fox News 24, Palladia and Golf Channels on television, and loves reading anything by Dallas Williard. Snow Patrol, U2, The Offspring, Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters are his favorite musicians, and he likes writing, reading, golfing and running during his free time.

With extraordinary leadership skills, and an ability and intention to serve the public, John Kasich can prove to be an iconic president of the US. While he is running the US presidential elections in 2016, let’s hope for his victory, and see what he has to offer to the US citizens.
