Childhood
Melanie Brown is born on 29 May 1975 in Harehills, Leeds. Her father, Martin Brown is a Nevisian and her mother, Andrea Dixon is English. Brown spent her childhood in Burley, Yorkshire. Brown studied Performing Arts at Intake High School, Leeds.
Early Career
Melanie Janine Brown started her career in the entertainment industry as a dancer in a holdidaay resort in Blackpool, Lancashire. She joined the band, Touch. The band eventully split up and Brown and a few of the members came to be known as Spice Girls. The group got a break when their performance before the industry big-wigs was a runaway hit in 1994. Spice Girls signed an agreement with 19 Entertainment in 1995. They entered into a contract with Virgin Records in 1996 and debuted with their first album, Wannabe.The solo song reached the 'Number One' position in approximately 31 countries, announcing the arrival of the Spice Girls. Their debut album, Spice earned them the reputation of the best-selling female group and music artists in the world.
Brown's single I Want You Back topped the UK Singles Chart and was the 82nd best-selling British single in 1998. The song featured in the film, Why Do Fools Fall in Love. Brown was the anchor for Pure Naughty, a show on black music on BBC2. She featured in a short film on BBC, Fish. Brown was the host for the MOBO Awards in 1998 and 1999.
Brown debuted with her first album, Hot in 2000. She shifted focus to television, anchoring the talent how, This Is My Moment for ITV1. Brown acted in Voodoo Princess, a documentary on Channel4 and in the film, Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde. She did a series of adevrtisements for the Yorkshire Tourist Board.
Brown's single from the album, Tell Me released at 'Number Four' on the UK Charts, becoming the '158th best-seller of 2000'. Her single, Feels So Good released in 2001 peaked at 'Number Five'.
Melanie Brown started her acting career with a role in the film, Burn It, in 2003. She acted in the horror film, LD 50 Lethal Dose and The Seat Filler. Brown featured in the musical, Rent in 2004. Brown was the protagonist in the film, Telling Lies. She launched the album, LAState of Mind, which is a documentary on Brown's life in LA.

Melanie Brown participated in the fifth season of Dancing with the Stars, a dance competition on television in 2007. Brown and the other Spice Girls went on a re-union tour, The Return of the Spice Girls, which proved to be a smashing hit. They bagged the Billboard 2008 Touring Award.
Brown was a guest panellist on the show, Loose Women on ITV1 in 2009. She hosted Dance Your Ass Off, a weight loss show by Oxygen. Brown hosted her own reality show, Mel B: It's a Scary World on Style Network in 2010. She was the judge for the Australian version of the X Factor and the guest judge for the British version. Brown did the emecee for the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars.
Brown re-surfaced in the world of music with her third album For Once in My Life in 2012.
Brown's rise as a television persona was meteoric. She was the judge in the eighth season of America's Got Talent, a talent show on NBC. She featured in the film, Twelve Trees of Christmas in 2013. The same year, Brown launched her single, For Once in My Life, which reached 'number two' on the “Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs” charts. Brown was selected as coach on the Australian version of The Voice Kids in 2014. She is a visiting anchor on the Breakfast programme on Sydney radio station 2Day FM. Brown is slated to co-host Lip Sync Battle's British adaption on Channel 5.
Personal Life
Melnie Brown was involved in a romantic relationship with the Dutch dancer, Jimmy Gulzar. They married in 1998 and are blessed with a daughter, Phoenix Chi Gulzar. The couple got divorced in 2001. Brown had a relationship with actor, Max Beesley and later Hollywood actor, Eddie Murphy. She has a daugter from Murphy. She dated and subsequently married film producer, Stephen Belafonte. The couple has a daughter.
