John Travolta Success Story

Early Life

John Travolta was born as John Joseph Travolta to Salvatore Travolta and Helen Cecilia on 18 February 1954 in New Jersey. He dropped out as a junior from school at the age of 17 in 1971. Travolta prior to making it in the film making industry worked in the touring company of Grease. He sang on the Broadway. He sang the song Dream Drummin by Sherman Brothers before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his career as an actor.

Career

Travolta started his career with a television role in Emergency in 1972. He shot to fame with his role as Billy Nolan in the horror film Carrie in 1976. We also got a breakthrough in the television industry through his role in the TV sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter from 1975 to 1979. His first single Let Her In reached a number 10 position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1976.

He was cast in Saturday Night Fever as Tony Manero. The character was loved by the audience all over the world. Travolta’s movie Urban Cowboy in 1980 inspired a country music craze among the audience. Travolta’s box-office record fell down with failed movies like Prefect, Two of a Kind and American Gigolo. In 2000 Travolta acted in Battlefield Earth which failed to impress the audience.

Heights

Travolta is an accomplished private pilot with multiple certifications. His performance in the films Saturday Night Fever in 1977 and Grease in 1978 were critically acclaimed also made him an international star overnight. Travolta received a nomination for Oscars when he was only 24 years old. The nomination made him one of the youngest performers to be nominated for the Best Actor Oscar. Travolta rose to fame after his fall with Look Who’s Talking and Grease in 1989.

Personal Life

Travolta was in a relationship with actress Diana Hyland during the making of the film The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. In 1977 Hyland died of breast cancer thus putting an end to the love story. Later Travolta married actress Kelly Preston in 1991. The couple has three children out of which the first son died at the age of seventeen in 2009 during Christmas eve due to a seizure. The couple has regular attended marriage counseling and stated that marriage therapy helped their marriage work.
