Zachary David Alexander Efron was born in a middle class family, to parents David Efron, an electrical engineer and StarlaBaskett, a secretary at the same power plant. His father encouraged him to pursue acting when he was 11 years old. He first started acting in theater productions at his school and simultaneously began taking singing lessons. While in school, Zac performed at various shows such as The Gypsy, Peter Pan, Little shop of horrors and many more. His drama teacher Robyn Metchik recommended him to an agent in Los Angeles.
Zac started his acting career by signing a contract with Creative Arts Agency. He made his first appearance on television in the series titled Firefly in 2002. He also starred as a guest in a number of shows: NCIS,CSI: Miami,The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Replacements.
Zac was first nominated for the Young Artist Award for his performance in a television movie Miracle Run. In 2006, Zac landed a role in the low-budget film High School Musical as Troy Bolton.The movie exceeded the expectations of the audience and became the most successful film the Disney Channel had ever produced. He made a debut with two songs Getcha Head in the Gameand Breaking Free thatmade it to the Billboard Hot 100. In 2007, he appeared in a sequel of The High School Musical, which set a new record, with 17.2 million viewers. He appeared in the movie, Hairspray in 2007. Later, in 2008, he appeared in the last piece of the trilogy of The High School Musical.He has performed a few other roles for teenage audience in films like 17 Again, Charlie St. Cloud and The Lorax. In 2012, he took a lead role in The Lucky One and later starred in a musical drama titled We Are Your Friends in 2015.
Zac was named one of the most beautiful people by the People’s Magazine in 2007. In 2011, he was second on their list. Efron featured in the Forbes Celebrity 100 list by gaining a spot at No. 92.
Efron dated co-star Vanessa Hudgens, whom he met on the sets of the High School Musical in 2005. Their relationship lasted until 2010. Recently he has been dating model Sami Miró.
