Linus Torvalds is among the leading names in the information technology industry owing to his role in the creation of the Linux kernel that came to operate as the core of several subsequent Linux based operating systems. Linus developed this software to be open source and free making it one of the most prominent OS’s to come into join the competitive industry.
The Linux core played a significant role in reducing the effects of the Microsoft monopoly. Like many Scandinavians this Finnish American is very family oriented making him the subject of family photos at many high profile computing and IT events.
It would appear that Linus was exposed to critical thinking early in life given both his parents were campus radicals. His father and mother both worked as journalists and were quite vocal in the university years. The playful programmer was named after Linus Pauling, Nobel Prize winner. He quips that this appears a mistake as he has lot of the Linus from the Peanuts comic in him as well. Linus and his wife Tove are an odd couple given he is a programmer while she is a six time Karate champion who initially asked Linus out on their first date. It’s thus no wonder they always make the headlines with their awesome family photos.
The family has three daughters; two of whom have birthdays that are used as magic values to reboot the Linux kernel. Despite having garnered many fans owing to his work as programmer Linus remains down to earth and is a favorite among media and journalists shooting family photos at high profile IT events across American and other parts of the world.
